This is a list on the ways to set your mind to the right place so that you make a very informed choice to stop smoking. This is really a determination that if you think about what you are doing it just does not make any sense to continue with your habit at all. By forming a plan and following it and by knowing what you are going to get as a payoff for stopping this habit you will cause yourself and remind yourself even when you are tempted that the reward is so much more for breaking the habit than to carry on with a way of life that is costing you dearly both financially and health wise.

I didn't think I would be able to quit my smoking habit. It seemed like I was always waiting until the anxiety in my life was at a minimum to begin to quit and of course that just never seemed to happen. I used my smoking as a stress reliever and I just didn't know what to compensate it with. I was apprehensive of gaining weight and it seemed like every time I stopped smoking or even attempted smoking control, I replaced my smoking with eating and as soon as I saw a weight increase over five pound I was once again smoking.

It was not effortless but I started some smoking control by replacing additional activities and habits for times when I would usually smoke. When I decided that I had to break the smoking habit I started with a list of pros and cons for my determination to smoke or to quit. In other words what I was getting out of smoking and then the cons to keeping my smoking habit. Of course the pros far outweighed the cons. The financial and health costs of a smoking addiction makes the decision to maintain one you cant really defend in any sense except for the fact that as a smoker this is a habit that you relish.

After I made my list I hung this list up on my bathroom mirror and also on my bedroom door. I wanted everyday to see my motivation for changing my behavior this helped considerably since quitting smoking is a decision one has to renew day by day. Once you stop smoking you have to presume there will be times when you will slip but in the times past that I backslid, I just accepted failure and started smoking full steam ahead. This time if I slipped and bought a pack of cigarettes or smoked one I begged from a friend I allowed myself forgiveness for not being perfect and started right back up.

After I saw the scales go up I made sure to go to the gym more and not to rearrange eating with smoking. I also rewarded myself by pampering myself with anything I in most cases would not do for myself. Any time I pay attention to careful smoking control my cigarette use always goes down. I can not say that I don't think about smoking from time to time and more than likely always will but I always tell myself that what you save is both health and money. Your clothes do not smell like smoke your hair does not reek of smoke and you can taste the food you eat. You can also put the money you would have used for buying cigarettes into a bank account and watch it grow.
